Man Charged in Deadly Hit-and-Run of Dog

Police believe the driver was impaired at the time of the accident

A Clifton Heights man is facing charges for hitting a dog with his car and taking off from the scene of the accident, according to a report in the Delaware County Times.

The dog, a  German Shepherd Doberman Pinscher mix, was killed.

The dog's owner James Watson told the newspaper that "King" got out of the house through an open door.

His brother, Aaron, tells the Delco Times that he saw the dog get hit, and says the driver didn't even slow down.

Police identify the driver as Rashawn Antonio Robertson and believe he was impaired at the time of the accident. Investigators say he told officers on the scene that he knew he hit something, but didn't know what it was.

Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Delco Times that they are charging Robertson with hit-and-run because a dog is a living thing, and he hit the dog and kept going.
