Man Charged in Wellness Center Slaying Out of Hospital

The man accused of shooting his caseworker to death and grazing his psychiatrist in a gun battle at a Delaware County wellness center last month is out of the hospital and heading to prison.

Richard Plotts, 49, was discharged Thursday from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, said Emily Harris, spokeswoman for the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

He was taken to the Delaware County prison, where he is to be arraigned by video on homicide and other charges Tuesday afternoon.

Plotts is charged in the July 24 shooting death of 53-year-old Theresa Hunt at a wellness center on the grounds of Mercy-Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa.

Authorities say psychiatrist Lee Silverman was grazed in the temple and thumb. They said he crouched behind a chair and pulled out his own gun, firing several shots at Plotts, wounding him.
