Church Theft Caught on Tape

Suspect stole $200 from church's offertory box

Hamilton Police are searching for a man caught on camera stealing from a church offertory box.

The burglary happened at about 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael church in Hamilton, N.J., police say.

A bald man walked into the church and tried to open a locked candle offertory box, but when the suspect saw the surveillance camera he paused to cover the camera with a towel, police say.

After covering the camera, the man pried open the offertory box and too the $200 that was in it, police say.

The suspect is a white man, in his 40s or 50s, has a stocky build, shaved head, and was wearing glasses and a dark hooded jacket.
