Man Brings Pot to Court Appearance: Cops

Man was carrying marijuana when he showed up to court to pay a fine, authorities say

A New Jersey man who went to municipal court to pay a fine is now facing new legal troubles after police said he was carrying marijuana when he showed up for the session.

Twenty-year-old Jean L. Veillard, was waiting in line last week when Ocean Township court officers asked him to empty his pockets. The directive came because the Monmouth County town recently implemented a policy that mandates all people attending court hearings be screened and pass through a metal detector.

Authorities tell the Asbury Park Press that Veillard, who was planning to pay a fine on a theft charge, removed a bag containing marijuana. He then allegedly tried to dump it on the floor, but was taken into custody.
