Victim Identified in Old City Beating Death

Man savagely beaten while hailing a cab in Old City

Police have identified a 23-year-old man who died of his injuries Saturday night after he was savagely attacked and beaten by three men in Old City.

Kevin Kless was attacked on the sidewalk in front of the old Second Bank of the United States building around 2:25 a.m. Saturday morning.

A source tells NBCPhiladelphia that Kless, who was with two female friends, tried to hail a cab at the intersection of 4th and Chestnut. The cab already had another group inside. Kless yelled to the driver to turn off the light since the cab was full. The suspects thought Kless was yelling at them and got out the car and began punching and kicking him. A fourth man sat in the car, cops say.

Police are searching for three Middle Eastern men in their 20's.

The assault was halted by a group of nearby park rangers, who gave Kless first aid while the suspects fled the scene.

Kless was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where police say he died from his injuries at around 7:10 p.m.

Police are looking for a maroon Mazda 626, with a model year in the early 2000s.

If you have any information about the assault you are asked to contact Philadelphia police at (215) 686-3388.
