Man Assaults Infant Girl: Police

A Delaware man is accused of assaulting a baby girl.

Police say that on Tuesday, 25-year-old Jeremy Hurtt of Magnolia was babysitting the 7-month-old daughter of his girlfriend at her Felton home. During the day, Hurtt sent a text message to his girlfriend, who was out on personal business, telling her that the baby had fallen and bruised her face.

The woman returned home and took her baby to Kent General Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.

After police investigated the child’s injuries they claimed that Hurtt’s story didn’t add up however.

Authorities say that the baby’s bruises indicated that she had been slapped and punched in the face and that Hurtt was the culprit. On Wednesday, police charged Hurtt with second degree assault.

He was arraigned and incarcerated into the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $5,000 secured bond.
