An elderly woman is in the hospital after police say she was assaulted by her own son.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday on the 600 block of North 54th Street in West Philadelphia, according to investigators. Police say a 55-year-old man struck his 88-year-old mother twice in the head. She was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition with a laceration on her head.
Investigators say the man fled on foot. Police believe the man is a drug addict who was trying to get money from his mother. They have not yet released a description of him or his identity.
