A man who police say led them on a short chase which ended in a crash, was arrested for his 5th DUI.

It happened Saturday around 11:22 p.m. Investigators say a trooper on patrol was near Coastal Highway and Sylvan Acres Road north of Milton, Delaware. Suddenly, police say, the trooper spotted a Dodge pickup truck traveling above the speed limit. The trooper followed the truck and tried to conduct a traffic stop but the driver allegedly failed to pull over, swerving in between traffic at a high speed.

Police say the driver, later identified as Josephi Anastasi, 40, of Milford, led the trooper on a short chase southbound on SR1. Anastasi then allegedly turned right onto Reynolds Road and lost control of his truck before striking a construction sign and a fence. Police say Anastasi then fled on foot into a nearby cornfield where he was quickly captured by the trooper. He was not injured in the crash.

Anastasi was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and other related offenses. Investigators say a computer check revealed he had four previous DUI convictions dating all the way back to 1992. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $11,759 cash bail.
