Scranton police say 46-year-old Kevin Brown set fires in five locations at the home on Friday afternoon, while his father, 78-year-old James Brown, slept in a second-floor bedroom.

Police say the elder Brown was pulled from the flames by three men who reported the fire about 2:30 p.m., and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Burn Center with second- and third-degree burns. James Brown remained in critical condition.

Police did not immediately disclose how they linked his son to the alleged arson.

Kevin Brown was in custody awaiting arraignment on Monday. Online court records don't list an attorney for him.
