Man Allegedly Assaults Grandmother

Neighbors called 911 after hearing screams for help

Philadelphia Police want to know why a man allegedly beat up his 87-year-old grandmother.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday at the woman's home along the 5200 block of Arlington Street in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia, police said.

Neighbors called 911 after hearing the woman screaming for help. Police arrived and arrested her grandson, authorities confirmed.

Blood trickled down the unidentified man's face as he was led in handcuffs to a police car.

The woman was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to be treated for lacerations on her face.

Investigators are not sure yet of a motive, but say drugs may be to blame.
