Man Alive After Huge Tree Falls on Car in Northeast Philly

A man driving on a Northeast Philadelphia street is grateful to be alive after a huge tree fell on top his truck during Hurricane Irene Saturday night.

Hugh Rawlins told NBC Philadelphia he was waiting to make a left turn on Solly and Castor Avenue around 7:00 p.m.

“The light was red and the next thing I knew the tree just fell on top of me," Rawlins said.

The tree also landed on top of another car parked next to Rawlins. No one was inside that vehicle.

“If that car wasn’t there, that tree would have been on the cab of my truck and I probably wouldn’t be here.”

Rawlins managed to escape through the back window of his truck.
