Man Accused of Attacking Officers Near School

Two police officers are recovering after officials say they were attacked by a suspect near a middle school in Coatesville.

Police say the two officers approached 37-year-old Glen Hines who was sitting inside a vehicle at Scott Middle School on South 8th Avenue and Sterling Street around 11:05 p.m. on Friday.

Hines allegedly yelled and screamed at the officers as they approached and was uncooperative when they asked him for his identification.

Investigators say the officers then asked Hines to exit the vehicle. Hines then allegedly attacked both officers, elbowing one of them in the face and causing the other to suffer back and knee injuries.

Investigators say Hines then tried to run away but was captured after one of the officers used a taser. Hines was within 50 feet of the middle school at the time of his arrest, according to investigators.

Police say Hines was in possession of prescription pills, marijuana and a digital scale. Police say they also found more marijuana and cash inside his vehicle.

The injured officers were taken to the hospital. They were later released. Hines is charged with aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest, escape and possession with the intent to distribute narcotics.
