Elderly Man Killed in Crash on Ocean County Bridge

Police say an 83-year-old died after his car crashed into a disabled vehicle on a bridge in Ocean County.

Toms River police say Michael Fecak of Seaside Park was driving west over the J. Stanley Tunney Bridge when he slammed into the broken down car that was stopped in the right lane Sunday afternoon.

The Asbury Park Press reports police said Fecak was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious internal injuries. He became unconscious and stopped breathing in a Toms River Township ambulance that was driving him to Jersey Shore Medical Center. The ambulance diverted to Ocean Medical Center in Brick where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries, the release states.

The other vehicle was pushed into the bridge wall and the driver, Ashley Bell, 29, of 314 Pitcairn Road in Brick, and her passenger, Meghann Ray, 23, of 84 W. Cooksbridge Road in Jackson, were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
