State authorities say a Camden man who led a major drug distribution network in the city has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
Luis Burgos must serve 8 years of the sentence imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole. He had pleaded guilty on April 29 to first-degree racketeering.
“By locking up this ringleader and his associates, we’re cutting off a major source of the drugs that are fueling violence in Camden,” Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said.
Authorities say the 34-year-old Burgos had large quantities of cocaine flown on commercial airline flights from Puerto Rico to New York and Newark that was then distributed in Camden. Burgos admitted selling about 10 ounces of cocaine in April 2011 to a person who was cooperating with law enforcement.
Burgos was among 28 people who were indicted in 2011 in connection with the drug distribution network.
