Crews Rescue New Jersey Woman Who Became Ill on Maine Mountain

A New Jersey woman who became ill while hiking on one of the tallest peaks in Maine was airlifted off the mountain in Baxter State Park, said authorities.

The Portland Press Herald reports that the Maine Army National Guard Medevac Unit helped transport the unnamed hiker off Pamola Peak on Mount Katahdin on Saturday.

Park officials said the 29-year-old Moorestown, New Jersey woman had been hiking with six people when she became ill from a medical condition and was unable to continue.

She was taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital. Her condition wasn't immediately known.
