Lottery Confirms Winning Ticket From SEPTA 48

Lottery officials say members of the group presented the winning ticket on Tuesday at noon and now have a validated claim.

The SEPTA 48 are one step closer to revealing themselves to the public. Lottery officials say members of the group presented the winning ticket on Tuesday at noon and now have a validated claim. The ticket had documentation for all 48 winners, according to officials.

The 48 SEPTA office workers won the $172.7 million Powerball jackpot last Thursday. The winning ticket was sold at The Gallery at Market East. A SEPTA worker who knows some of the winners told NBC10 they’ve decided to take their winnings in one lump sum instead of annual payments. The cash value for $172.7 million is $107.5 million which works out to nearly $2.4 million for each SEPTA worker.

Most of the SEPTA lottery winners work on the 11th floor at headquarters on Market Street in Center City. They pooled their money and played the lottery consistently. While office pools are common, the SEPTA 48 has remained a tight-knit group of union members and managers.

Lottery officials say a large check will be presented on Friday at SEPTA headquarters. The exact time has not yet been confirmed but officials say it will likely take place around 11 a.m. All 48 winners are expected to be there.
