Local Teen Wins $100K for Tuition

A Forked River teen wins a tuition contest on national television

It took thirty seconds and good aim for a local teen to win $100K.

Josh Dawson, of Forked River, got an opportunity to compete in the Dr. Pepper Tuition Throw, after entering an online contest.

Dawson, who is studying education, is a first year student at Ocean County Community College in Toms River. After getting his associate degree, he plans to transfer to a 4 year school.

"I've always wanted to help kids and make an impact in the world," Dawson said.

In his submission video, Dawson says he was severely bullied in the 8th grade. He now has plans to make an impact on kids, by becoming a teacher.

"I want to show kids that school is a fun place to go and a safe place to learn," he said in his submission video.

The throw took place during Saturday's AC Championship game in Charlotte.

The goal was to throw the most successful football passes into a giant Dr. Pepper can in thirty seconds.

After the buzzer sounded, Dawson was all smiles as he was handed a check for $100K to help pay for his tuition.
