Local Rapper Beanie Sigel Not Target in Recent Shooting: Police

Police do not believe wounded rapper Beanie Sigel was the intended target of a shooting at his brother-in-law's New Jersey home.

Pleasantville police Lt. Danny Adcock tells The Philadelphia Inquirer Sigel may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The 40-year-old, whose real name is Dwight Grant, remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Sigel, a former Jay-Z associate who had three chart-topping albums, was shot in the stomach outside the Spruce Avenue home where he lives on Friday morning. He just returned from taking his kids to school. He's been in critical condition at an Atlantic City hospital ever since.

Adcock says officers found the rapper's brother-in-law with scrapes and bruises to his face and arms but aren't sure how they happened. Adcock says "cooperation from the family is minimal."

Sigel was recently released from federal prison after serving more than a year for tax evasion.
