Local Rabbi Protests SEPTA Bus Ads Featuring Hitler, Arab Leader

A Philadelphia-area rabbi is waging a protest against provocative ads on transit buses that include a 1941 photograph of Adolf Hitler with a former Arab leader.

Rabbi Linda Holtzman tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that she and other Jewish activists are pasting stickers on the sides of buses bearing the ads.

The ads on the side of Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority buses have the tagline: "Jew Hatred: It's in the Quran." The ads from the American Freedom Defense Initiative are on 84 buses.

A federal judge last month ordered SEPTA to accept the ads. The agency said it wouldn't appeal.

Holtzman's black-and-yellow stickers call the ads hate speech.

A SEPTA spokeswoman says the ads will be removed by Monday at the conclusion of the monthlong ad contract.
