Another Philly bridge is opening ahead of schedule after a lengthy reconstruction.
The bridge carrying southbound Lincoln Drive traffic over Ridge Avenue is set to open Thursday -- six weeks ahead of schedule, according to PennDOT.
That's right, the end of the Lincoln Drive is about to become a lot smoother of a drive for the more than 20,000 drivers who use the road each day.
The closure was part of the Gustine Lake Interchange project that has caused traffic headaches since June of last year.
Motorists heading south on Lincoln Drive were forced to exit the road and sit at a light to continue onto to Ridge Avenue, Kelly Drive or City Avenue. Northbound lanes onto Lincoln Drive remained open during the construction.
The bridge was one of four spans at the Gustine Lake interchange that were dubbed structurally deficient, according to PennDOT. It was fixed as part of a $20.2 million project to reconfigure the interchange, which was used by about 100,000 motorists daily.
The opening should happen by Thursday afternoon but could happen as early as the late morning, according to PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum.

Last fall the South Street Bridge reopened ahead of schedule as well.
The entire Gustine Lake Interchange construction project is expected to be wrapped up in October, officials said.
