Life in Prison for Man Who Beat His Crack Dealer With Bat

A northwestern Pennsylvania man will spend life in prison for fatally beating his crack cocaine supplier with a baseball bat, after the dealer took $500 -- nearly all of the defendant's pay check -- to settle a drug debt.

Forty-nine-year-old Robert E. Quick told an Erie County judge drugs made him "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" when he killed 35-year-old Aderian Page Sr. on Feb. 22, 2013.

Quick acknowledged killing Page, but had argued he didn't mean to kill the man and was only trying to render Page unconscious during a disagreement.

But the Erie Times-News reports Erie County Judge John Garhart ruled in January that the multiple blows to Page's head proved Quick meant to kill Page.

Quick, who had no prior record and worked hanging drywall, was then sentenced Thursday.
