Lehigh Worker Hires Lawyer After Twitter Firing

An economic development agency employee who was fired over a Twitter post has hired an attorney and wants her name cleared.

Social media specialist Vanessa Williams was fired from the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. after using its Twitter account last weekend to tweet: “We start summer hours today. That means most of the staff leave at noon, many to hit the links. Do you observe summer hours? What do you do?”

Williams' attorney, George Kounoupis, tells The Morning Call of Allentown that the agency lacks a social media policy. He said that Williams didn't communicate anything inappropriate.

The agency's president Phil Mitman has said the tweet showed bad judgment and was not in keeping with the agency's mission of promoting the Lehigh Valley as a business location.
