Lawyer May Appeal Baggy Pants Fine

The lawyer for an eastern Pennsylvania man says she may appeal a $50 fine imposed over the man's droopy pants during a court proceeding last month.

The Express-Times of Easton said 18-year-old Adam Dennis of Macungie was fined Monday after getting a summary contempt citation last month because of his appearance inside the Lehigh County Courthouse.

Defense attorney Kimberly Makoul tells the newspaper it's a bad precedent, noting he was a spectator and not a defendant or witness. She argues his attire wasn't disruptive before District Judge Wayne Maura drew attention to it.

A sign on the door at Maura's office directs people to "pull your pants up" and shows a cartoon of three people wearing baggy pants. It warns they won't be assisted without proper attire.
