Back to Work: Delco Refinery Reopens

Some of the workers who lost their jobs at a suburban Philadelphia refinery last year are going back to work after Delta Air Lines completed a deal to reopen the facility and make its own jet fuel.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports workers are heading back to the new Monroe Energy LLC refinery on Monday for training and orientation. The $180 million deal to purchase the refinery in Trainer, Delaware County was finalized Friday.

The 185,000-barrel-per-day facility was shuttered in December with hundreds of workers laid off.

The deal includes $30 million in state money on the condition Delta keep at least 402 full-time workers at the plant.

Delta says it hopes to trim its fuel bill by about $300 million annually. Production could restart in two months.
