Labor Issues Force NJ Dems to Move Convention

The convention was scheduled to start Thursday at the Tropicana, but instead will be staged about a half-mile away at Bally's.

Labor issues at an Atlantic City casino hotel have spurred New Jersey Democrats to move their state
convention to another site in the city.

The convention was scheduled to start Thursday at the Tropicana, but instead will be staged about a half-mile away at Bally's Atlantic City.

A party leader says the move was made because the Tropicana has not reached contract agreements with three employee unions.

Democratic State Chairman John Wisniewski tells The Star-Ledger of Newark that the party didn't want members to face a situation where they might have to cross a picket line to attend the event.

Wisniewski said the party was aware of the labor strife at the Tropicana, but hoped the matter would be resolved before the convention date.
