Police K-9 Shot in Pa., Suspect Killed

Authorities say a police dog was shot Friday in central Pennsylvania during a pursuit that also led to the suspect's death.

Officials say police in Lower Paxton Township were pursuing a wanted man on Friday evening. A member of Harrisburg's K-9 unit named Zeke was called in to assist.

Officials say the suspect opened fire and hit Zeke in the neck. Assistant Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo says the suspect refused to drop his weapon, and was then shot by police.

The unidentified suspect was flown to a hospital, where he later died.

Zeke -- a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois -- was taken to a veterinary hospital in Mechanicsburg.
