New Castle County Police are crediting a police K-9 with helping to catch an alleged teen burglar.
On Friday around 7:30 p.m., police arrived at a home on Mahopac Lane in Newark, Delaware for a burglary report.
When they arrived, a 35-year-old woman told police that she left her home and upon returning minutes later, noticed that someone had entered her house and stolen several items.
After police set up a perimeter around the area, Corporal Robert Vasecka and his canine partner “Vasu” arrived. Police say Vasu was able to track a 14-year-old boy inside a nearby home. Police went to the home where they say they found the boy with a laptop computer inside a brown bag.
Police took the teen into custody. During an interview, investigators say police confirmed the boy’s involvement in the crime. Police say the teen stole a laptop, Wii video game system, controllers and games from the woman’s home. Police recovered the stolen property and returned it to the victim.
The boy, a resident of Wimbledon Court in Bear, Delaware, is charged with burglary and theft. He was arraigned and released to a family member after receiving a $750 unsecured bond.
