It's back to one Democrat versus one Republican in the Harrisburg mayor's race.
Dauphin County elections director Jerry Feaser confirmed that a county judge Thursday upheld petition challenges filed against two independent candidates.
Nevin Mindlin, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor as a Republican four years ago, and political newcomer Nate Curtis had hoped to compete from outside the major parties.
The rulings mean Democratic nominee Eric Papenfuse, a bookstore owner, and Republican Dan Miller may be the only candidates on the Nov. 5 ballot. Miller, the city controller who won the GOP primary by write-in vote, said last week he would not accept the nomination but changed his mind a few days later.
Incumbent Mayor Linda Thompson is stepping down after finishing third in a four-way Democratic primary in May.
