Jewish History Museum Opens in Philly

Hundreds of people spent Black Friday a bit differently as the National Museum of American Jewish History opened to the Philadelphia public.

The museum, located next to Independence Mall, chronicles the 350-year history of Jewish Americans.

The $150 million, 1000 square foot building includes exhibits, a 200-seat theater, a café and a museum store.

“There’s lots of interesting, engaging and new perspectives on American Jewish history,” said visitor Irwin Zeplowitz.

600 tickets were reportedly sold in advance.

“The story we tell is of course a story about American Jews,” said Michael Rosenzweig, the museum’s president and CEO. “But it’s also more broadly a story of freedom.”
