Janitors “Clean Up” Thousands in Cash

Men pleaded guilty to stealing money from non-profit for kids

Two janitors at New Britain, Pa. business were cleaning up more than just the office -- they took more than $650,000 to pay for everything from trips to Disney World to Eagles season tickets to tattoos.

Eugene Child of Plumstead, Pa. and Herbert Johnson of Brookhaven, Pa. pleaded guilty to multiple counts of theft and conspiracy in Bucks County Court Wednesday.

The men stole the money from Foundations Behavioral Health -- a non-profit that provides day programs for kids with behavioral health issues -- for  during a three year-period starting in 2005.

The theives put together fake invoices for janitorial supplies then sent the extra cash into fake companies and their own bank accounts, according to court records.

Child, 53, was the maintenance director at Foundations while Johnson, 36, was in charge of housekeeping. Johnson would put in invoices for bogus orders while Child would approve the billing.

The would then split the cash, according to officials.

"They were billing foundations for parts that either did not exist or were not delivered," said Assistant District Attorney Marc Furber.

They went as far as billing hundreds of dollars for items that cost just pennies, Furber added.

The men used the stolen funds to take family trips to Disney World, buy Eagles season tickets and pay for salon, spa and plastic surgery for family members, said PhillyBurbs.com.

By 2008 Foundations caught onto the increased costs and investigators were alerted.

"Foundations treats primarily children and this money was coming out of their mouths," Furber said.

Both men remained free on bail awaiting sentencing. They could face more than 40 years in prison.

A third man was also allegedly involved but he returned most of what he stole, said officials.
