International Women's Roller Derby Championships Roll Into Philadelphia

From nurses to accountants, the women in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) know how to release their post-work day stress.

Philly Roller Derby (PRD) is hosting the 2017 International WFTDA Championships from Nov. 3-5. The tournament started back in September, and the top four teams of the tournament are competing at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia for the Hydra trophy and title of No. 1 in the world. The qualifying rounds were held in Dallas, Texas; Seattle, Washington; and Malmö, Sweden.

“Having finally established a home for our league in the Germantown this year, we are more at home in Philly than ever and look forward to showcasing all our city has to offer when skaters, officials and fans from around the world join us in November to watch the world’s greatest roller derby teams compete,” said PRD President Deborah Gorth.

Founded in 2005, Philly Roller Derby encourages health living, athleticism, and leadership for people of all ages. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association, also established in 2005, has over 400 member leagues on six continents.
