Shakuwrah Muhammad was a vibrant teenager.

Shakuwrah Muhammad was killed crossing the street early Saturday morning in Cedarbrook.

The 18-year-old was an innocent victim, who got shot in the chest during an argument between two groups of people, according to Philadelphia Police Sgt. Ray Evers.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 7500 block of Rugby Street.

Just minutes before the shooting Shakuwrah told her mother that she was walking a friend to the bus stop and then would be home, Shakuwrah's mother Marcia Butler told NBC Philadelphia.

Police named 19-year-old Malik Carter of the 7900 block of Temple Road as a suspect in the case. He turned himself into police Monday afternoon, sources said.

At a vigil for Muhammad Monday night outside Central High School, the girl's mother told a crowd of about 100 people that she will miss her daughter, but doesn't hate the man responsible for her death.

"I don't hold any animosity towards that young man," an emotional Butler said. "I just hope that it is an impetuous to stop the senseless killing because he has robbed not only me, but everybody out here from the love and whatever the future held for my daughter."

Butler says her daughter planned to be a forensic scientist. Friends and family turned to a Facebook tribute page to grieve.

Shakuwrah will be buried Tuesday morning at the Philadelphia Masjid, 47th & Wyalusing Ave. following a viewing at Khadijah Alderman Funeral Home, 613 N. 43rd St.
