Inky, Daily News, Philly.com Announce Sharing Plan

Plan was outlined a day after parent company Philadelphia Media Network Inc. announced plans to shed 37 jobs.

Philadelphia's two major newspapers will start cooperating under a restructuring plan that comes as a group of local powerbrokers make an ownership bid.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports editors for that paper, the Philadelphia Daily News and website, philly.com told staff Thursday that some coverage will be shared between all three outlets.

Although details are still being worked out, Inquirer Editor Stan Wischnowski says some sports coverage as well as city and suburban reporting will be combined. The papers' columnists, editorial writers and investigative teams would remain separate.

The sharing plan was outlined to staff a day after parent company Philadelphia Media Network Inc. announced plans to shed 37 jobs.

The cuts follow word this month of a possible sale to a group headed by former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and union complaints that related stories have been censored.
