Illegal Dumpers Busted Using Night Vision Cams: Police

Police say they are capturing illegal dumpers using surveillance video, through an investigation called "Operation Hawk Eye"

It's called short dumping, and police say it's happening all too often in several Camden neighborhoods.

The city is now cracking down on this type of illegal dumping, through what's being called "Operation Hawk Eye." Police say they are capturing surveillance images of illegal dumpers using small portable battery-powered cameras with night vision.

Three areas where police say dumpers have been caught in the act include -- Norris Street and Lansdowne Avenue, 28th and Adams Avenue, and 30th Street and Cleveland Avenue.

Camden Mayor Dana Redd took NBC10's Terry Ruggles on a tour of one of those short dump sites, and showed him old tvs, furniture, and bags of garbage that had been left there.

"We've been working very hard to work with the limited resources we have. This just adds more pain to what is already a painful situation, Redd said.

Police say in at least three of the cases, caught on surveillance, people abandoned animals there as well.

Camden Police says 20 illegal dumpers have been charged as part of this operation. They are urging anyone who witnesses someone illegally dumping trash in their neighborhood to call this special hotline, 856-757-7042.

Investigators also want you to take a look at these surveillance pictures below to see if you can help identify these suspected dumpers.
