Driver Crashes, Dies After Being Shot, Possibly by an AK-47, Along Philadelphia Street

Gunfire rang out along a Philadelphia street Tuesday afternoon leaving a man injured in a crashed car and police looking for a suspect possibly armed with an assault rifle.

Philadelphia police responded to the 3900 block of I Street in the city’s Juniata Park section around 3:10 for the report of a crashed minivan.

Inside the white minivan, crews found an unidentified man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Medics pronounced him dead on the scene.

The initial description of the suspect is a man carrying an AK-47, according to Philadelphia police detectives.

The victim's van crashed into a black minivan -- both vehicles coming to rest on the curb -- the body of the gunshot victim remaining in the front seat of the white vehicle.

Police closed I Street from Erie Avenue to Luzerne Street while they investigated.
