A Bethlehem mom is dead and her husband is in serious condition after allegedly being beaten by their 51-year-old son on Tuesday.
Bethlehem Police say that 77-year-old Shirley Lindgren died Wednesday from injuries sustained during the alleged beating, according to The Morning Call.
The paper reports that sometime after midnight Tuesday, neighbors heard blood-curdling screams coming from the Lindgren’s home on E. Wall Street.
Police tell The Call that when they arrived on the scene, 51-year-old Michael Lindgren walked out of the house with blood on his hands and said, “I had to kill them.”
The “them” he was referring to was his parents.
Inside the house was Shirley -- in a pool of blood -- and her severely injured husband, John Ralph (JR), 78, in a chair nearby.
Investigators say both had been beaten and kicked, according to The Morning Call.
The victims were rushed to St. Luke’s University Hospital in critical condition.
Shirley died Wednesday just before noon.
Now, Michael Lindgren, who was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangerment, could be facing more charges pending his mother’s autopsy.
The suspect, who police told The Morning Call laughed in court when he heard the charges against him, is being held in Northampton County Prison. His bail is set at $500,000.
