Man Torches House, Kills Wife: Police

A man has been ordered to stand trial on homicide and arson charges in the death of his wife, whose body was found following a fire in their central Pennsylvania home.

Prosecutors in Lycoming County allege that 53-year-old Michael Wright of Williamsport beat and stabbed Lynn Wright on Oct. 25 and then set fire to their home.

Wright was charged after investigators said he told another patron at Ann's Tavern hours after the body was found that he had killed his wife.

Defense attorney George Lepley sought dismissal of the arson charge Thursday, saying the commonwealth hadn't proven arson.

Wright, covering his face as he left court, called the other bar patrons β€œa bunch of crooked people” and told WNEP-TV β€œI loved my wife, I don't care what anybody says.”
