An investigation is underway after a man found part of a human leg in the Delaware River near Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood on Thursday.

The 27-year-old man was fishing in the river at North Delaware Avenue and Beach Street, near the Graffiti Pier, at 8:03 p.m. when he discovered a leg from the kneecap to the foot.

Police said the leg also had a sneaker on it.

It's not clear how the leg got into the river or how long it had been in the water.

Emergency responders searched the waterway to see if other body parts could be located, but they didn't say if they found anything.
