Hospital Patient's Credit Cards Stolen: Police

Police aren't sure if the credit cards were stolen and returned before the patient left the hospital or if the cards were duplicated

A patient admitted to Hahnemann University Hospital for a heart procedure made a shocking discovery -- someone went on a spending spree with his credit cards while he was recovering in a hospital bed.

The victim told Lower Southampton Police that he was in the hospital from March 13- 16th and his credit cards were in his wallet when he left the hospital. Investigators aren't sure if the cards were stolen and returned to the wallet or whether they were duplicated, police said.

The suspect, seen in the surveillance pictures above, is accused of using the victim's credit cards to make purchases at several Target stores, in Sewell and Deptford, NJ, and the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, police said. Investigators also say the stolen cards were used at a Walmart and Macys store, both on Roosevelt Boulevard in the city.

On Monday, Hahnemann University Hospital released the following statement regarding the thefts:

Hahnemann University Hospital takes the safety of our patients, employees and visitors seriously.

We were notified by the Lower Southampton Twp. Police Department about an issue involving a former patient’s credit cards.  Hahnemann Security conducted a through internal investigation and have cooperated fully with the Lower Southampton Twp. Police Department in their investigation.

There is no evidence that a theft of this patient’s credit cards occurred at or by anyone affiliated with Hahnemann University Hospital.

Investigators hope these pictures will help someone to identify the suspect. If you can help, call the Lower Southampton Police Department at 215-357-1235, ext. 339.
