Horse Stuck on Del. Bridge Rescued

Horse's front legs became stuck in the slats of a Delaware bridge Tuesday

New Castle County police say a 5-year-old horse has been rescued after becoming stuck in a pedestrian bridge in parkland north of Newark.

Cpl. John Weglarz Sr. says police and rescue workers were called to the 200 block of Robin Redbreast Road about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials found the horse with its front legs stuck in the slats of the bridge.

County officers trained in large animal emergency rescue and patrol officers administered first aid to the horse. Rescue workers say firefighters used a chain saw to cut the supports of the bridge to free it.

Weglarz says two riders were crossing the bridge when the horse, a gelding named Scoot, got stuck.
