Homecoming: Taney Dragons Return to Philly

After capturing the hearts of the city through their remarkable World Series run, the Taney Dragons returned home Sunday. Mayor Michael Nutter officially welcomed the Dragons back during a party at Love Park.

Led by star pitcher Mo’ne Davis, the Dragons won the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Little League championship and made it all the way to the U.S. semifinal before falling to Las Vegas and Chicago in the double elimination tournament.

Along the way, the Dragons gained countless new fans not only in our area but the entire nation. Television ratings when Taney played Las Vegas Wednesday night were the highest in Little League World Series History. Mo’ne Davis became a certified star, gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated and inspiring young female athletes across the country.

The Dragons left Williamsport around 9 a.m. and arrived at Love Park on 15th and JFK Boulevard shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Mayor Nutter then hosted a welcome home party for the team as the city celebrated the hometown heroes.

The celebration will continue Wednesday with a parade in the city as well as a ceremony at Citizens Bank Park.
