Police Arrest Deadly Home Invasion Suspect

Another suspect remains on the loose

Police have arrested one of the suspects in a deadly home invasion in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city that left a husband and father dead and his wife badly hurt.

Ali Marsh, 35, was arrested without incident Saturday night at the Spring Hill Marriott hotel in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. by a task force of U.S. Marshals, Philadelphia Police and local police.

No charges have been officially filed.

Marsh is wanted in connection with the deadly attack that occurred in the 3200 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning. Investigators say that Marsh and a second man, Charles Davis, 35, broke into a house and shot Sherrell Paul at least eight times. Sherrell's husband John Paul Jr. confronted the two men, and was shot dead.

Paul's two children were home during the attack.

During the alleged home invasion Sherrell shot back at her attackers and possibly struck one of them in the leg.

Marsh was found with a gunshot wound to his leg when he was captured but it was unclear who shot him, U.S. Marshals said.

John's mother, Antoinette Paul, believes her son's murder was the result of a mistaken address or identity. She was relieved when she learned of Marsh's capture.

"When we woke up this morning and saw the news we felt that holding on and keeping our faith in the right place is the right thing to do," said Paul. "Hopefully they catch this other guy and we can all just rest in peace."

Authorities say that as of Sunday morning, Davis was still at large and in violation of his parole. He is described as a 5-foot-8, 195 pound black male with black hair and brown eyes.

Marshals say Davis' last known residence was on the 1400 block of S 51st Street and that he is known to frequent Chester, Pa.

He is considered armed and dangerous. There is a $1500 reward for his arrest.

Anyone with info on Davis or his whereabouts should call the Marshal tip line at 1-866-865-8477.
