Home Invasion In Oxford Circle

Man beaten; wife and baby threatened

A family in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia were left reeling after a brutal home invasion took place early Sunday morning, just 8 days after the family moved into their house.

Police say that the family -- Joesmir Caceres, his wife, and their 11-month-old baby, Joe -- were asleep in the upstairs bedroom of their house at 1320 Friendship Street when four men entered through a window. (Caceres tells NBC10 that only three men were involved.)

Caceres told NBC10 through a translator that the men wore pillowcases to cover their faces and put a gun to his head while asking "Where is the money?" He says the men eventually began pistol-whipping him, leaving a huge gash over his eye that required stitches.

At one point, Caceres says, baby Joe began crying. According to him, one of the suspects took the baby out of its crib, handed it to Caceres' wife, and told her "If you don't make the baby stop crying, I will."

The men eventually took $1,000 in cash, jewelry, and some cell phones. In an added humiliation, the men forced Caceres to remove all his clothing and pulled on his testicles.

Police say that no arrests have been made in the case. A motive for the break-in has not been determined, though Caceres believes that someone followed him home from the money transfer business that he owns.
