Home Invader Assaults Elderly Man: Cops

Police are searching for a man who allegedly broke into a Hamilton Township home.

It happened around 6 p.m. at a house on 350 Hewitt Avenue.

Homeowner Nancy Nowicki, 81, says that a man casually walked into her home.

“He was kind of pushy and insisted that he wanted to go upstairs,” said Nowicki.

When she asked him to leave, she says that he began to fight her 86-year-old husband as he reached for his cellphone to call the police.

“He started to push my husband aside and he knocked his cellphone out of his hands,” said Nowicki. “Then he jumped over the fence.”

The suspect escaped on foot. Nowicki’s husband suffered minor bruising but was not seriously injured.

It wasn’t until after the intruder left that Nowicki says she realized that the man had taken her purse. It was later found in her neighbor’s yard.

“The money is gone,” said Nowicki. “I had about $56. But my checking account book and my license are safe.”

Police describe the suspect as a black male between 17 and 19 years of age. Police say he stands at 5-foot-7 and weighs 180 pounds.

Police are following several leads. They warn residents to lock their doors, especially during the summer months.
