Heavy Rains Expected to Cause Flooding Across Region

Flood watch in effect until Tuesday

A major rainstorm is expected to dump between 3-4 inches of rain and bring strong winds that could cause flooding across the region.

A flood watch is set to go into effect from 2 a.m. Monday until Tuesday afternoon for several counties throughout Pennsylvania -- including Bucks, Chester Montogomery and Philadelphia counties, New Jersey and Delaware, according to the National Weather Service.

A Coastal Flood Warning is also in effect for most of the area.

Moderate to heavy flooding will cause a rise in rivers and streams.

“Local streets, creeks, and streams only need between 1 and 3 inches of rain in a six hour period to flood and this storm is expected to bring between 3 and 4 inches to a large area,” NBC10 Meteorologist Dave Warren said.  “A lot of this rain will fall late Monday morning and afternoon as the storm stalls over the area.”

People who live along the Neshaminy Creek in Hulmeville Borough, Langhorne, spent most of Sunday preparing their homes for possible flooding.

“When you live down by the stream, you get everybody’s water. Everybody’s water kind of runs through your house,” said Ray Mahon.

Mahon along with other residents Hulmeville borough will receive a phone call from FEMA if his property is at risk. Bucks County officials are also expected to warn residents. Residents are also being asked to keep an eye on potential flooding on their own.
