Hazardous Material Leak Shuts Down I-95

I-95 is open once again after authorities contained and decontaminated a leakage from a tanker truck in Delaware County.

The truck was being operated on around 5 p.m. on I-95 southbound at exit 9 in Tinicum Township. That’s when motorists flagged down the driver of the truck because his vehicle was leaking an unknown hazardous substance.

The driver was unable to fix the leak. The Delaware County Hazardous Material Team soon arrived at the scene along with local and state police.

I-95 was closed southbound at the street exit and Northbound at exit 8 as crews worked on the leak. Residents of the Prospect Park area were asked to voluntarily evacuate their homes and meet at Ridley High School.

Around 9:45 p.m. crews were able to contain and decontaminate the leakage.  I-95 North and Southbound lanes reopened. Prospect Park residents also returned to their homes.

It’s unknown at this time what exactly the leaked substance was.
