Haunted House Claim Heading to ‘People's Court?'

NJ former tenants sued over haunted house complaint

The story has already gained fame on some television news and morning talk shows.

Now, a New Jersey landlord has filed a $15,000 lawsuit against a couple who claim their rented house was haunted.

Landlord Richard Lopez is seeking damages in state court from Michelle Callan and her fiancé. He says their claim will scare away potential new tenants or buyers of the house in Toms River.

The couple fled the house in March. They say they found clothes mysteriously ejected from closets and heard all kinds of strange noises -- including what sounds like a child’s voice and the sound of something being dragged through the basement.

The couple and the landlord are also in litigation over the $2,250 security deposit.

Lopez has said the couple bolted because they apparently couldn't afford the rent. The couple denies that.

Callan tells The Asbury Park Press the TV program “The People's Court” is offering to air their dispute and settle the matter.
