Fleeing Drug Suspect Kills Woman Driving Along New Jersey Street: Police

Authorities say a man with heroin on him fleeing police after a drug deal crashed his SUV into another vehicle, killing the other driver Monday night.

Chandler Heaviside faces numerous charges, including death by auto while under the influence of drugs and causing death while driving with a suspended license for the crash at Broad Street and Park Avenue in Hamilton Township. It wasn't known Tuesday if the 22-year-old Jackson man had retained an attorney. [[393579631, C]]

Mercer County prosecutors say state police tried to stop Heaviside's Chevy Trailblazer SUV in Trenton after they saw an apparent drug deal. But they say he drove away at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued into Hamilton Township but was soon ended.

Prosecutors say the SUV ran a red light and crashed into a Honda Civic driven by 22-year-old Deja Farrior, of Trenton -- the wrecked cars coming to rest near a Family Dollar store. She was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.[[393497051, C]]

Heaviside made a run for it after the crash leaving behind passengers Lawrence Sears, 28, and Harry Remington, 25, in the wrecked SUV, said police. Doctors treated both passengers, said prosecutors. Each passenger faces a drug possession summons for a bundle of heroin located on the car floorboard.

New Jersey State Police and Trenton Police later apprehended Heaviside. He had heroin on him at the time of his arrest, said the Mercer County Prosecutors Office. [[393226561, C]]
