Society Hill Gunman Stands Over Victim, Shoots: Police

The shooting took place in Society Hill following an altercation, according to authorities.

A man is in critical condition following a shooting in the Society Hill section of the city.

Police tell NBC Philadelphia that the 46-year-old man was involved in an altercation with two men when he was knocked to the ground. Authorities say one of the men stood over the victim and shot him twice in the chest.

He was rushed to an area hospital where he is in very critical condition, police say.

The incident took place on Pine Street and Lawrence Court around 11:30 Monday night.

Police believe the motive behind the shooting was robbery.

Investigators are describing the suspects as black males. One of the men is around 6-feet 2-inches tall, weighing around 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt and a dark, shiny vest.

The second suspect is 5-feet 9-inches weighing 150 pounds. He had on all dark clothing.

Police are reviewing surveillance video and will continue to investigate.
