Gun Stolen From Pennsylvania Evidence Room Used in Janitor's Suicide: Officials

A western Pennsylvania sheriff says a gun stolen from an evidence room has been found at the home of a courthouse janitor suspected of killing himself earlier this month.

Fayette County Sheriff Gary Brownfield tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the .357-caliber revolver had been stored in his office, along with other weapons and evidence, since it was seized in a 1998 domestic dispute.

Authorities aren't identifying the custodian, but say he was found shot to death at his home on April 16. A final ruling on the cause and manner of the 55-year-old man's death is pending toxicology reports and autopsy lab tests, but the death is being treated as a suicide.

Brownfield says security measures are being changed. The man had a key to the sheriff's office because of his job.
